On the road in the Switzerland of the Middle East

Lebanon is often referred to as “the Switzerland of the Middle East”, while it would be unusual to call Switzerland “European Lebanon”.
In any case, the organization “Solidarité Liban Suisse” (SLS) brings together both countries and supports all kinds of projects for a peaceful future in Lebanon and Switzerland.

School St. Joseph in Batroun

From kindergarten to graduating classes, there are 800 pupils attending the private school of capuchins St. Joseph. Just as important as a stringent logical-scientific thinking, which encourages the teaching of the various priorities, is also that the students are educated to good Christians, responsible citizens and people of peace.

School Christ-Roi, Zahlé

Zahle is the only city in the Bekaa Valley with a Christian majority, proudly showing city officials, residents and religious institutions symbols of their faith. A very important school is the College du Christ-Roi (Christ King).

School St François, Hamra

Capuchin Father Abdallah Noufaily is extremely busy because he runs the St. Francois School in Hamra, part of Beirut, with 400 students, of whom only 20 are Christian. The school is a place of interreligious learning – and a place supported by SLS, for example, in that less well-heeled people can send their children to school by taking on part of the school’s fees.

Bruder Klaus – Peacemaker for the Middle East?

Brother Niklaus von Flüe (1417-1487) is a Swiss national saint, but is also becoming increasingly important for the “Switzerland of the Middle East”, Lebanon – not least thanks to the charity organization “Solidarité Liban-Suisse”.
